Ever so recently, I decided to try a new style of art after seeing it done by a person (Deb Weiers) in an art class I am taking. Basically, it is called continuous line drawing (you start in one place and do not lift the pen or pencil until your finished). Now, there are some similarities between hers and mine but before it is over I am sure ours will look nothing a like. So since I had a wild hair up my bumb to try this style... I figured I would make a character with some (no not wild bumb hairs... just wild head hairs) he he.... I may play with this style for a while... or until I get my fill anyway. If you have never tried it, I recommend it, I find it fun and a pain in the arse all at the same time.
A few more things I did in this style. They make me giggle.
Hot, hot, HOOTTTTT... Holy cow it is the kind of hot that will melt the make-up right off your face, instant racoon! Always around this time of year, I want summer to end (no, I never complain about how cold it is when winter comes like some people). Soon it will be windy and the trees with be beautiful colors of golds, reds and oranges... swoon. I can sit in the art studio with the doors open and the Kdogs can be free to come and go from the backyard. Ohhh and hoodies! I love me some hoodies.
Around this time of year I start coming up with ideas for my Christmas postcards, this way I can have them off for printing by Halloween and out the door by Thanksgiving. Some how in Dec of last year I sketched this Whimsical Christmas Creature. Half fox, half deer... a "Feer" or "Dox" hmmm... neither of those sound especially good lol. Regardless of the species, here is a small video I made of the process. Guess I need to get started on my Christmas list next... ha!
Depeche Mode- If you only knew how many hours I drove people around in my car blaring "Little 15" and "I just can't get enough". Poor souls... although, I do get messages from old friends who say that when they hear DM (Depeche Mode) that they think of me so... maybe it was a good thing (I am remembered he he). In my car you will still find a few DM songs hidden in my media files and when I am in a certain mood, I turn up the sound dial, sing at the top of my lungs... and feel 16 again (I always stop at red lights though, I don't want an audience...lol).
I apparently, can not get enough of making artvelopes right now. Here are a few more to spy.
Today I got the white folders I ordered, the white "manilla" folders (Now that makes no sense but it makes me laugh) to make into an artvelope journal. My friend Tara told me that maybe manilla folders would hold up better than the re-purposed book I was using.... having some manilla folders about, I grabbed one and she was right, they were way better when using stamps/alcohol ink (little to no bleed through). I prefer to start with a white background, so I bought some white folders thinking they would hold up the same. Ummmm, maybe there is a better brand out there some where but the ones I got have significant bleed through. I will make it work by just writing on the bleed through side what stamps and alcohol colors I used... this way, I can recreate it again more easily. Some where out there... I have read a little snibbit... "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade" (now I know I am an over thinker but what if life did not give you sugar and water... then what?). Ok what I am trying to say is... now I have 100 white "manilla" folders (snicker) and I am going to make some lemonade... errr... art darn it! Also, I am a little obsessed with the Chef stamp that Brett Weldele did so I drew my version for fun then colored it.
Chef stamps... I just love these, not really sure why but they make me happy. The larger portrait chef looks like he takes his job pretty seriously... and no doubt is on his way to have a handle-bar moose-stash. I have seen a fella about Charlotte once or twice with a handle-bar mustache and it is sooooo hard not to stare or ask random questions (believe me I can come up with some do-zzees). I want to know things like what does it look like when he gets up in the morning, does he have bed-stache? Is it all crinkled up like paper? You can understand now why I choose to ignore my brainy question bank and keep on walking lol. Let's enjoy the artvelope while you think of random questions you would like to ask the next handle-barred moose-stash man you see.
MC HAMMAHHHH... na na na naaa naa na naaaaa nah.... Journal errr... Hammah time. Man, if had a pair of MC Hammer pants, I would totally throw those bad boys on to work in my art journal. When I needed anything I would do that quick-side-rapity-fast move (come one, you know the one, right?) .... to go get a drink, snack or art supplies from across the room/house. I wonder if the Canvas Dog would even lift his head to see what I was up to. To be honest, I think he and Kitsune are pretty immune to my antics lol. Anywhooo, A few days back I arted (yes it rhymes with a body function ppffftt, so what lol) in my journal and some how I felt a little Equine-ish. SO, here is girl with a horse.
Oh where... oh where had the KD gone? Oh where, Oh where had she been? With her hair cut long and her tail... wait, I do not have a tail but, the guy in the movie "Shallow Hal" had one and it was creepalicious. Shallow Hal may be one of my favorite movies not top 10 or anything... heck maybe not even top 20 but, when it comes on, I always finish watching it. There are several movies that no matter what else I am planning to do, if they pop up on the TV I finish watching. Of course there are those few movies that I really like but always seem to catch in the same spot, it is maddening (I mean, how does that happen? The Replacements is one of them, always catch it when the sumo guy is upchucking eggs lol).
Since I have taken such a long break from the bloggity-blog, I have a lot of catching up to do. I will start with the journal page I was working on until the wee hours of this morning. I love Klimt and was so excited to drag out my gold, silver and bronze paints. So thanks Mr. Kilmt for the inspiration!
I have been some what quiet lately while I contemplated taking over the world (remember Pinky & the Brain?) NARF! Unfortunately, none of my plans have worked but... no doubt I will keep on trying and until I succeed, I guess I will keep making videos and art! Lucky Ducky you are to see all my random creations... ummm right? Just go with it, my ego could use a boost!
Lenny Kravitz, some how "Are you going my way" always pumps up my jam. You know, we all have about 10 songs (minimally) that when we hear, we get out of our chairs and fist pump the air around us... Oh, like Billy Idol and Mony, Mony... how does anyone not stop what ever they are doing when it plays to get their "Rock" on? Maybe I should make today into an 80's music day and see what I create.
Back in 2015, I drew a whimsical Myan-ish girl in my journal and never added any color, thinking I would get back to her in a few days... um, yea, I did not. Tired of looking at her all bare and desperate for completion... a few days ago, I painted her up real nice and made a video of the process. I did something new, I added some text between the images. Be ready to pause to read because my friend Angie says they ZOOM by lol. Maybe they do or maybe they do not, I have a feeling the wine we had may have stunted the processor in her brain a weeeeee bit.
EAR WORM! I first learned of that term when I was watching the Big Bang Theory, Sheldon had a song stuck in his head. I am not sure there is a much funnier episode than that one. Seriously, if you do not watch the BBT what are you waiting for? The series hits home with me since my husband is an Electrical Engineer and my best friend is too... literal is a word I use a lot these days and although I am a wee bit smarter than Penny and err... ummm, I have a few more donuts on my hips (ok, inner legs, arms, neck, face... probably toes) than her... I do feel her pain occasionally when no one gets my sense of humor. I could go on and on about these characters but back to the ear worm. Now, I sometimes wake up and have the last song I heard playing like a single track in my head, other times it is just my favorite song at the moment. This particular morning it was Tina Turner's "What's Love Got to do With it?" ok, I must tell you that is NOT a song I have any memory of hearing recently nor is it on my top 10 list. My normal choice of music is Evans Blue, NIN etc... not ever TINA TURNER ha ha... I went with it and sang it all over the house (much to the dismay of the Orange Cat who I apparently seem to annoy constantly by simply being alive) until I sat down at my desk and arted it out. Thank goodness the ghost of sexy legs is outta my head so I can think about more important things like are my favorite shorts clean? Happy Creating arty-farty peoples!
When I get junk mail I often wonder... will it hold up to paint? How I can use it some other way in my art? Most of the mail is just too flimsy but today, I got a nice heavy-weight direct mail advertisement. I cut the glossy card stock down to 4x6 and got started. For me, taking something that was going to a land-fill and making arty farty stuff is super fabulous... aaaand, recently, I saw some where, a call for a postcard done mostly in pink, that will go on display at a show in California (hope they like it, because... KD does not like pink!!)
On a side note, I think it is always a good idea to coat these first with gesso just to help the paint or papers adhere better (otherwise I worry my work will scratch right off!). The video I made is a quick one but by now most of you know my process and AWAY WE GOOOO!!!!
While talking to a friend ( Ms. Annette), I decided to give my mail art a smelted name (like Ben and Jennifer were given, "Bennifer")... so, it was either "Artvelopes" (which makes me laugh because it sounds like antelopes) or "Mart" (which does not speak to me at all and rhymes with a smelly body function). Of course, you can figure out that I would go with "Artvelopes" because, well, that is pretty fun to say. I had big plans to get into my art room and work in my art journal but... I just had to keep playing with my new stamps so....a few more Artvelopes were made instead. There is always tomorrow! Hope you had a productive day!
Recently, I purchased a few more stamp sets. I have been tracking my order like a little kid does Santa on Christmas Eve (you know I really do think there is a web page for that)... some were, last I checked, to be delivered this morning (squeal). Once my eyes opened about 10 am (what do you want, I am an insomniac I get up later than you but I bet I got less sleep), I got dressed and checked the mailbox (I really hurried like my 8 year old self, half presentable with my hair looking a bit wonkified). There they were taunting me with ideas galore. Something weird happened though, once I REALLY looked at them I realized I was stumped. Several of them were the same size and when I do mail art I really like things to be a bit more of a variation. So, there I sat at my desk scratching my head (no, not literally) trying to layout stamps for a glamorous new envelope.
After about an hour I finally stamped something, now, I have made some nice envelopes before. I am not going to put this one on my WAPOW list but, when and if I ever mail it, I am sure the recipient will be delighted. This is the great thing about arty people, smack some color down and we smile. I also made a few more envelopes last week. I am not going to tell you which of these is the now wapower... because dang it, you may like it!
I am not really sure exactly how many times I have watched the movie sixteen candles but each time it seems like I see something new. This time while watching, I noticed when Sam and her friend were first in the gym that there was a DJ dancing in the background pretty, well, badly lol (not like I am a rockstar or anything but daaannnggg) you remember the Billy Idol fists at the sky... your welcome. Maybe today I can spend some time working on some sixteen candles related art.. we will see. I do tend to get a wee bit art ADDish and if that happens, who knows what I will work on. I did start something yesterday that I am quite happy with and it is possible that it may be too shiny for me to leave alone.
Ok, yeapper, I just had to finish her. Probably no Molly Ringwald today!
I had to print this out and re-scan it... so the colors are a little off but oh well the image was too big for me to upload unless I did... Gotta roll with the punches right?
Oi! I have not been wanting to art. No special reason why, I just occasionally need to live outside the art room to refill the creative juices... I have been on E. Last night I decided when I woke this morning I was going to play with my pastel pencils which then turned into the idea to scan my finished girl into photoshop and see what I could do. I really like the final image. I was working on transfer paper so that I could scan her on top of some fancy paper and it worked AWESOME.... Now, hopefully, I will want to do something else different and fun so my brain does not shrink into a walnut ha ha...
DOH! It is no mystery... I am impatient when it comes to letting paint or gesso dry and because of this, sometimes, I make big-ole fatty boo-boos. Today, I was affixing some ATC copies on to cardboard (to sturdy them up and help them seem more awesome than a copy normally would) and like always, I took out the heat gun and started zapping it dry. Every single thing was going as planned until... I spied a bubble under one of them (crapaliciousness those matte medium bubbles). So I pressed down on it with a piece of paper and well, as you will see a lot of damage was done (wahhhh!) As I put a layer of clear gesso over it I thought hmmm, maybe I can fix it. CHALLENGE ACCEPTED... I mean we all deserve a second chance right? After a bit of brain storming I decided I could use some modeling paste to fill in the craters I had made. IT WORKED but then I thought, why not just give her a complete clothing make over. Now, instead of having a copy of an ATC I have a whole new piece of art. Glad I did not trash her. Yea ME! KD 1 Big-Ole Fatty Boo-Boos ZERO!
Tuesday Morning is a terrible (for my wallet) store. I try not to drive any where near one because I can not seem to resist going in and looking for treasure. I bet I would have made a terrible pirate. Why? I would not be able to leave the booty behind, all hidden and crap...which would result in me starving to death. Staring into a chest of goodies while they glitter in my Ayes (yes, use your best pirate voice... yes, I know it is supposed to be "eyes" but this is my bloggity-blog and I can type whatever I want so nana nana boo boo) would be too mesmerizing for me to function lol.
Wonderful pirate tangent ending in 3...2...1...
So, did I find anything great at Tuesday Morning, why, yes I did! Some sassy new peacock napkins, a stencil and a new stamp. YEA ME. Did I use any of it in my art today? Ummm no... but I did manage to make one tag for a swap I am doing in a group. About a year ago I painted an ATC with a pink haired girl that I thought would would make a great start for it (once I decapitated her eek). All I needed to do was remake a body and have her feet dangle off of it (one of the swap requirements). I like her and I hope my swap partner does too. One more to go!
I have said it before and I will say it again... I love to paint things that most people do not. Like tea wrappers. The feel of the paper is nice and it is white (like Kakko the Canvas Dog) and ready for some paint... I do not really like green tea btw, not even sure why I have it in the house, maybe for a passed guest? In the spirit of not being wasteful, I made some and put enough sugar in it to be a dessert (I know, bad girl taking all the health out of it) then away I went to paint. I am not sure which of these is my favorite. I love them both!
Rummaging about looking for a nice bottle of wine to pop open, I was pleased to see my "Cat Bottle Wine" from Germany (2014 Rheinhessen Reisling if you care to know). The first time I saw one of these bottles I giggled, I mean, a wine bottle shaped like a cat, come on... AWESOME. Little did I know, they would make multiple colored cats so... I now have silver, gold, red, blue & white (a few are empty, not sure how that happened **snicker**) maybe they will make more who knows, but I will always be thirsty and looking for more! So, it got my mind going and... I did have that unpainted Levi's tag from yesterday so... why not paint it up with my own Cat Bottle?
Of course, I made a video of the process to share, so sit back, grab a glass of wine (or grape juice if you prefer) and take a gander.
Ohhh and because my mind works the way that is does... I was reminded of the Justin Timberlake SNL skit where he is dressed as a beer bottle and Lady GAGA has wine glasses as hands. I do not know how many times I have watched it but I still laugh EVERY SINGLE TIME... so, if you have not ever seen it, here is the portion that I am referring to... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkWEt8JeMWU
Not sure why my Hippocampus (what a funny word, maybe it is as large as a hippo OR as big as a campground and is taking up most of my brain) was so super stimulated today but... I was remembering playing freeze tag when I was about 10ish. I was a fast little bugger (unlike now, I have a lot less vroom in my legs) and I LOVED to play that game. I did kinda like being "it" more than being chased... more of a challenge I suppose.
Now the only type of "Tag" I do is alterations of paper lol. Which brings me to the altered tag I finished up last night...
I had never heard of altering a clothing tag until I signed up for a trade in a facebook group. Coincidentally, my husband and I had just bought some Levis so I was set (well, umm...after I went through the trash to get the tags out... and no, it was not in our kitchen trash so no sticky-icky. We had just taken out the bathroom trash so they were the only thing in there... they are clean I swear) !
I am going to add a photo showing a tag I have yet to do, along with the one I altered. I am calling her Trisha (first name I saw this morning lol). I got super frustrated adding the beads (apparently I need to work on my fine motor skills or maybe put my fingers on a diet... so yes, there is a crap ton on the floor. Yea me, more to clean up!), they just did not seem to want to thread. Yet, I prevailed (stubborn little thing that I am)... wahooo!!!
Here is to hoping you are inspired to make something today (raising my coffee cup). ** CLINK**
For days now (and by days I mean more like almost a year), I have been moving a large rock from place to place in my studio. Every single time I move it, I think, I really need to paint that (although, painting it will not mean it is not still in the way ha ha, it will just be really pretty AND in the way). Today was the day! I put my foot down telling myself to get busy (or maybe get jiggy with it, I am not clear on that part) and complete that bad boy (or girl). I am proud to say that I did finish the rock and I am happy with it. She (Clemintine the Clown) will still likely never be put in a place where I can see her and remain out of the way but oh well... at least she is fun to look at while I put her some place else time to time. I did make a video of the process & I used a lot of different materials... like gesso, neocolor II, acrylics, graphite, Staz-on ink, Tim Holtz stencils... ok, it is safe to say she is mixed media. So, let us have a look at the video eh? HERE WE GO, KEEP YOUR ARMS (and legs too for the more adventurous types) INSIDE THE RIDE AT ALL TIMES....
Since I had all my stamping equipment out (you know, stamp pads and what not... gadgets and gizmos a plenty), I figured I may as well make one more piece of art mail to share. As I was peeking through my mounds of rubber (no, not trojans or other PPE), I came across an unmounted Elvis stamp and snatched it up to get rolling. When I was a kid my parents took us to Graceland where I saw his shiny pink Cadillac and since then, when I think of Elvis, I think of cars. So, when I remembered my favorite car stamp it was a natural fit to me. I have made a short video and this time, I tried to include a better idea of the mediums I used as well as other products. Hope you like it!
Ok... I have little to now idea what I am doing here. This could either be an epic disaster or one of the coolest things I have ever done. No WHAMMY, NOOOO WHAMMY!
Tonight one of my friends and I were talking about my web page (I have been using it as a bloggity blog). She was not sure why I had things set up the way I do and well, it is simply because I am not sure I want to be followed or subscribed to ( I mean I was taught to be aware of my surroundings and frankly I can not see who is peeking in my windows or hiding in my bushes this way now can I?). Also, I am not a fan of internet trolls or meanie-pants people who have diarrhea fingers (you know the ones that can not type anything nice and only crap comes out of their phalanges, smelling up the comment section with hate). Yet, here I am and I am going to try to give it a go...
So, a few things you can expect from me. One, I am not an English major and I type like I talk (you will likely find misspelled words, run on sentences, made up words (this is a fun hobby for me) and lots and lots of ... and commas). So, if you like to read perfect sentences, you may want to leave now because it is gonna happen... A LOT. Two, my sense of humor is random and unpredictable, heck, I do not even know what I may find funny from minute to minute (so hold on to your butt). Three, there is no three (now I am thinking of the Matrix, "there is no spoon"). Your welcome.
Now on to Art (or my version of what I think art is). I made a video today of the process I go through when making mail art. This piece I am calling "The Train Engineer", mixing and match stamps is fun. Thinking out of the box is fun... Let's get to it!
Where has the time gone? I had family visiting off and on all last week so my creative time was either not available or simply cut short. Yesterday I spent the whole day fulfilling trades I had promised. The idea is to create 8x8 Journal pages for one another then make and bind signatures together. Phew, what a lot of work. Most of them need to be 4 different pages (meaning pne page folded in half then painted on to be different entries... 2 on front, 2 on back). So if I am doing 3 signatures with 4 pages ...I will need 3 of the artist to make pages with 2 on the back and a centerfold on the front and 9 artist to do pages split into 4 entries . So, I am guessing by now your pretty confused and I will tell you I was at first too but you will get it one day when I post a completed book. Here are two of the journal entries I have made to swap.
Wapow!!! Friday is here. I have a lot going on again today so... I will not make it into my art room again boooo! Maybe I will share some photos of my favorite ATC that I have kept for myself. Now, to go into the art room I will have to wade through the tumble weeds made of dog hair and hope I do not get covered in the fluffy stuff from head to toe... causing me to suffocate (I know this is a gross exaggeration but trust me it does get on you no matter what you do... almost like I am a hair magnet lol). I keep a very clean home but there is simply no defense for 2 Akitas who are blowing coat. No matter how much I brush them there is always more falling out. It is like it is their job to keep me sweeping and vacuuming but I love them so, I will continue to keep the lint roller manufacturers in business.
